Walk the paths of Lakewold Gardens and you will be strolling through a period in garden history when classic European design came face to face with America's emerging landscape masters. It was a time when the South Sound's Lakes District was first being discovered and when Tacoma's new prominent families would introduce the world to their unique vision of a cultured country estate. With help from Thomas D. Church, a leading landscape architect of the 20th century, Eulalie Wagner made this garden her personal life project and generously left it for all to enjoy.

General information about visiting: A leisurely self-guided stroll throughout the grounds takes approximately 90 minutes. If you are interested in a docented tour, please contact Visitor Services for available dates. Food service is not available, but picnicking is welcomed. Pets, except accredited service animals, are not permitted in the gardens.
Group Tours: Follow our knowledgeable docents down the garden path as
they illuminate the history and botanical diversity of Lakewold Gardens.
Guided group tours are offered year-around for a minimum of $30.00 per group
or $3.00 each for groups of 10 or more people. To make a reservation, call Visitor Services at 253.584.4106 ext.106
or submit a
Tour Request Form. Note:
During our spring season (April, May and
June) we offer docent-led tours (no reservation required) on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Regular admission fees apply.
Accessibility: Much of the gardens are wheelchair accessible,
including restroom facilities. Many of the path/walk ways are finished with
brick pavers, hardened earth or small pea-gravel. Lakewold currently has two
wheelchairs available for use on-site. If you, or a member of your party
require special accommodations, please phone us at 253.584.4106 prior to
your visit and Lakewold will make every effort to assist you.
Photography: Visitors are welcome to take photos
for personal use only. Those who plan to use tripods
in conjunction with cameras, please check at the Tour Office upon arrival. Lakewold has appeared in numerous local,
regional and national publications--those who plan to take photos for
publication must call in advance to make arrangements.
Travel Planner: As you plan your trip
to Lakewold, consider touring some of the wonderful Arboreta, Botanical and
Demonstration Gardens located in Washington,
Oregon, British
Columbia and other parts of the Pacific Northwest.
